David Morland first started playing cricket professionally at Appleby Frodingham Cricket Club’s intermediate section in 1961, quickly rising through its ranks with passion, skill and devotion over decades of play. Over those four decades – nearly 40 in total! – Morland achieved numerous notable milestones: scoring over 10,000 runs while taking more than 1,000 wickets was only ever done once before by another player! This marked an amazing all-round cricketing prowess which could only come from long hours spent honing his craft on a consistent basis.
David was widely respected among both teammates and rivals for his spirit, sportsmanship, and respect he garnered. His stunning feat in 1992 when he took all 10 wickets with figures of 10-17 is still remembered with amazement; such an event showed off both talent and determination and earned David the name: the Man for All Occasions.”
